The nude—the unclothed or partially clothed human body—has been featured in European art for millennia. After , with the waning of the Middle Ages, artists depicted nudes as increasingly three-dimensional, vibrant, and lifelike— in short, more immediate and real. They employed diverse means: in Italy through a return to the models of ancient Greek and Roman art, and in northern Europe through refinements to the technique of painting in oils that enabled painters to capture textures—of flesh, of hair, of the sparkle in an eye—with unprecedented truth to nature. In concert with new scientific approaches, artists across Europe studied nature—including the human body—with increasing specificity and deliberation.

Hundreds of volunteers have stripped and posed naked in a north London park -- all in the name of art. Wearing nothing but a white face mask, some volunteers gathered at Alexandra Palace to take part in the Everyone Together art installation organized by Spencer Tunick. Banksy has bought a working refugee rescue boat and sprayed it bright pink. Tunick, who is known for bringing hundreds -- and sometimes thousands -- of people together to pose for striking mass nude photographs, positioned volunteers at least one meter apart according to social distancing guidelines. Volunteers were screened and temperature-checked before the installation began in the early hours of Saturday morning, organizers said. Some people posed nude apart from white face masks at what organizers said was the first major participatory work of art since lockdown. Credit: Spencer Tunick for Sky Arts.

This could be awkward for all involved, but ultimately she delivers honest portraits.
What spirit is so empty and blind, that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful that the garment with which it is clothed? Some people feel that the nude form is something that should be hidden away both in art and the artist's classroom. Although this may seem at first like a mere annoyance, such people frequently attempt to stop others from viewing or learning from the human form, thereby infringing on their rights to create and consume art as they wish. On the ARC website there are countless paintings and sculptures featuring nude figures. From time to time, this anti-nudity theme pops up in the ARC website feedback and on the Good Art mailing list, normally starting because someone says something along the lines of "All of this would be wonderful if only you would hide or eliminate the presence of nudity on the site.
